Pope Francis warns against 'building walls' ahead of U.S presidential election

On Saturday evening, while addressing the Third World Meeting of Popular Movements at the Vatican, the Roman Catholic Pope, Pope Francis warned against building 'walls', saying tyranny doesn't find support unless it taps into people's fears.
Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall between the United States and Mexico has been a major focus point of his campaign mantra, but the Pope, without directly calling out the U.S Republican presidential candidate, stated clearly that 'all walls fall', saying God doesn't want a life of enclosure of banishment for his children.
"No tyranny finds support without tapping into our fears," Francis said.  "This is key. Hence, all tyranny is terrorist. And when this terror -- which was sown in the peripheries, with the massacres, looting, oppression and injustice -- explodes in centers with different forms of violence, even hateful and cowardly attacks, citizens who still retain some rights are tempted to the false security of physical or social walls. "Walls that enclose some and banish others.
Walled citizens, terrified on one side, excluded, exiled, and still more terrified on the other. Is that the life that our Father God wants for their children? "Dear brothers and sisters -- all walls fall. All of them. Do not be fooled."

Husband bites off wife’s nose because she couldn’t pay his expensive dowry in India (graphic photo)

A violent husband bit off his wife's nose after she refused to pay his expensive dowry and moved out of their home. According to reports, Raj Kumari and her husband Shiv Prasad got married two years ago but separated last year, following his continuous luxury dowry demand of £1,800 and brand new motorbike.
The 21 year old lady, who moved to her parent’s house in Lakhimpur after separating from her 23 year old husband, claims that the shocking incident took place on her way to school on Tuesday, when he ran towards her and grabbed her before biting off her nose after failed attempts to bring her back home.
After the said incident, Shiv ran away before she called her family to the scene and they quickly arrived and took her to a Medical clinic where it was confirmed that she lost a portion of her nose.
According to reports, Raj Kumari who was later arrested that same day by policemen from Gola Police Station explained that he only attacked her because of the way she dresses to school and for also refusing to return home with him.

Student accused of plagiarism by professor for using the word 'Hence'

A student of Suffok University, Tiffany Martinez has been accused of plagiarizing her paper by her sociology professor because she used the word 'Hence' According to her, on Thursday morning in class, her professor handed her paper back to her and said loudly in front of the class 'This is not your language'
The professor circled the word 'hence' on her paper and wrote 'this is not your word' and also underlined 'not' severally. on the top part of the paper she wrote 'please go back and indicate here you cut and paste from'
Tiffany Martinez who shared the story on a blogpost titled 'Academia, Love Me Back' said she was humiliated and that the issue is indicative of a larger problem.
According to her, her last name and appearance instill stereotyping even before she utters any word.
'My last name and appearance immediately instills a set of biases before I have the chance to open my mouth. As a minority in my classrooms, I continuously hear my peers and professors use language that both covertly and overtly oppresses the communities I belong to. Therefore, I do not always feel safe when I attempt to advocate for my people in these spaces,' she said.

Martinez further stated that the comment from her professor made her question her work which caused her to spend the entire class going through the paper which knew she didn't plagiarize.
She said she now questions her career path which is to become a professor.
"It is worth repeating how my professor assumed I could not use the word “hence,” a simple transitory word that connected two relating statements. The professor assumed I could not produce quality research. The professor read a few pages that reflected my comprehension of complex sociological theories and terms and invalidated it all. I am hurting because for a brief moment I believed them,' she wrote in the blogpost."
The university has reacted to the story saying the case is currently under investigation.

Corporal punishment

Corporal punishment (CP) is the physical force applied on children by parents, guardians, teachers to control and discipline the child. CP includes methods such as hitting, slapping, pinching, by using items such as belts, sticks, pins etc. Children are also made to remain in painful body postures or prohibited to eliminate urine or stool or pencils are placed between student’s fingers and pressed to create pain. Still today, it is a common method of disciplining children around the globe and there is a very delicate line between physical abuse and disciplining a child.

*so what's your take on corporal punishment?

ICS volunteers in Kwali creates awareness on education

"Raising awareness today in Kwali, the fact that there are so many children going without what is considered a basic human right is truly heartbreaking. Over 10.5million children out of school in Nigeria. Together we can change the way this world works. Did you know that if the US gave 1% of their budget for weapons a year towards getting children into school that would pay for every child in Nigeria that is out of school to be in school for that entire year?"
